Canada Trademark Fee Increase 2027: Complete Fee Schedule

CIPO announced 1.7% trademark fee increase effective January 1, 2027. Compare application, renewal, and opposition fees.

The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) has announced that trademark fees will increase by 1.7% effective January 1, 2027. This adjustment applies to all trademark-related services including applications, oppositions, and renewals.

1. Which Fees Are Increasing?

The fee increase applies to application filing fees, examination fees, opposition fees, renewal fees, and appeal fees — approximately 1.7% across the board. This adjustment is made under the User Fees Act.

2. Before vs After Fee Comparison

Standard application: before $330 CAD, after approximately $336 CAD. Each additional class: before $100 CAD, after approximately $102 CAD. Opposition fee: before $466 CAD, after approximately $474 CAD. Renewal fee: before $456 CAD, after approximately $464 CAD.

3. Should You File Before Year-End?

If you have already decided to register a trademark in Canada, filing before December 31, 2026 saves you the 1.7% fee increase. However, the absolute dollar difference is small ($5-10 per application), so it is usually not worth rushing an unprepared application just to save a few dollars.

4. Summary

Canada trademark fees will increase by 1.7% on January 1, 2027. The increase is modest, but if you have already planned your Canada trademark filing, consider submitting before year-end to lock in the old fee schedule.
